Meet Patric Richardson: The Laundry Guy Who’s Redefining Wash Day
Before there was a TV show, before there was a book, there was just a little boy who loved laundry. Patric Richardson, better known today as The Laundry Guy, was only three years old when Santa brought him a toy washing machine—and that gift set the stage for a lifelong passion.
Growing up in Kentucky, Patric loved helping hang laundry on the clothesline with his beloved Granny Dude and took pride in folding sheets with precision. He didn’t just enjoy clean clothes—he loved clothes, period. So much so that by eighth grade and again in high school, he was voted “Best Dressed.” His path was clear: he would find a way to blend his love of fashion and fabric care into a career.

From Fashion Floors to Laundry Camps
Patric studied merchandising apparel and textiles at the University of Kentucky and later worked at luxury retailers like Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom. There, he discovered two truths that continue to guide his philosophy: incredible clothes are fun, and all clothing—no matter the price tag—can be cared for at home.
In 2013, he opened Mona Williams, a designer vintage store in Minneapolis. Alongside curated fashion finds, he stocked high-quality laundry products, which quickly caught customers’ attention. Before long, he was hosting his now-famous Laundry Camps, teaching people how to wash and care for everything from cashmere to silk. The camps sold out, sparking a laundry revolution and opening the door to new opportunities.
Today, Patric is the author of Laundry Love (already in its fourth printing) and the star of HGTV and Discovery+’s The Laundry Guy. He’s been featured everywhere—from The Washington Post to NBC Nightly News—and his down-to-earth, joyful approach to clothing care has inspired fans across the globe.
Patric’s Fresh Spin on Laundry
What makes Patric so fun? He doesn’t see laundry as a chore—he sees it as an act of love.
“I love the whole process for two reasons,” Patric says. “First, it makes whoever you are doing laundry for happy. Second, it gives me such a sense of satisfaction. You start with a wrinkled pile of fabric and end with a beautiful closet full of clothes. Mick was wrong—you can get satisfaction!”
He also shares plenty of clever tips:
- The most underrated cleaning product? Vinegar.
- The trickiest stains? Lipstick and barbecue sauce—the better the quality, the harder to remove.
- Best buy under $100? A good all-purpose steamer.
- Big impact in a laundry room? “Get a fun light fixture, add paint, maybe even a disco ball!”
Patric’s design philosophy is simple: “Make it yours. If you love orange, go for it! When you surround yourself with things you love, your home becomes a place of joy.”
